The «Antonio Guiteras Holmes» library, belonging to the neighborhood in transformation «Cuba Libre» in the municipality of Pedro Betancourt, hosted the celebration of an enjoyable activity in salute to the Cuban Book Day.

The event, which also commemorated the 66th anniversary of the creation of Cuba’s national printing press and the celebration of the International Children’s and Young People’s Book Day, brought together local writers, cultural personalities, students and residents in an initiative that, under the slogan «Reading is growing up», exalted the value of literature as an engine for intellectual and social development.

The meeting also included the reading of works by local writers in the voice of Ángel Manuel Sabido Santana, director of the «María Villar Buceta» House of Culture, as well as the dissemination of the artistic work of the outstanding painter and caricaturist Cecilio Avilés and pieces belonging to the Asian Society in the territory, by workers of the «Gustavo González Pérez» municipal museum.
Likewise, artists from the House of Culture and specialists from the library delighted the children of the «Jesús Menéndez Larrondo» special education institute with their recreational activities. And the students and teachers of the polytechnic school «Leonor Pérez Cabrera» remembered the upcoming 63rd and 64th birthdays of the Union of Young Communists and the Organization of Pioneers «José Martí» and pondered the importance of continuing to promote reading from an early age.
