Yoenlis won first title in Tashkent.

On Saturday morning, May 13th, the Cuban delegation won two silver medals and one gold medal in the three bouts contested as part of the World Boxing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Yoenlis Feliciano Hernández from Camagüey won the 75 kg title, thus retaining the crown from the last championship, his opponent on this occasion being Wanderley Pereira from Brazil. The Carioca was defeated in all three rounds for a total of 5-0 in favour of Yoenlis.

Erislandy Álvarez won his first medal in championships of this type. The 22-year-old lost in the 60kg silver bout to the favourite, Olympic medallist Sofiane Oumiha, the Frenchman taking Thursday’s votes in two of the three rounds for a total of 4-1.

In the over 92 kg category, Fernando Arzola was defeated by Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov. The fight for the gold in this category ended by forfeit, a decision by the Cuban management, awarding the gold medal to the local and the silver metal to Arzola. The gold medal won by Yoenlis Feliciano Hernández is the first for the Cuban delegation.
