With the goal of ensuring comprehensive and differentiated care for patients who have suffered from arboviral diseases in the region, the municipality of Matanzas has established a system of specialized consultations at several polyclinics throughout the city.
According to Miriela Diago Rodríguez, a licensed physical therapist and rehabilitation specialist and provincial rehabilitation coordinator, the strategy involves the joint participation of specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation, traditional and natural medicine, as well as general practitioners or internists, to address common sequelae such as joint pain, prolonged fatigue, and muscle ailments.
During these consultations, the patient is evaluated, the appropriate treatment is prescribed, and a re-evaluation is subsequently performed. If, during this evaluation, the need for specialized follow-up is determined, the patient is referred to the rheumatology clinic in their local health area.
Depending on the clinical evolution, the rheumatologist may recommend a transfer to the specialized clinic at Faustino Pérez Hospital for more complex studies and management.
In the case of children, when the clinical situation is complex or cannot be adequately addressed in the local health area, they will be evaluated at the Matanzas Pediatric Hospital on Mondays by the specialized team.
In the main municipality, consultations are held on Mondays at the Reynold García (Versalles), José J. Milanés and Samuel Fernández (Playa) polyclinics, in addition to the consultation enabled in the community of Mocha.
On Tuesdays, care continues at the José Luis Dubroq (Contreras) and Carlos Verdugo polyclinics, as well as in the town of Guanábana, where the Physiatry, Natural and Traditional Medicine, and Internal Medicine teams ensure follow-up care for patients. Similarly, this same care system will be implemented this week in the remaining municipalities where Physiatry consultations are already available within rehabilitation services.
On Mondays, services will be offered at the following locations: Carlos Rojas, Torriente, Sabanilla, Jagüey, Varadero, Coliseo, Jovellanos, José A. Echeverría in Cárdenas, Agramonte, Colón Este, Ciénaga, Unidad de Reyes, Cidra, Máximo Gómez, and Moncada, also in Cárdenas. On Tuesdays, the following municipalities will be included: Fajardo (Cárdenas), Arabos, Limonar, Martí, Santa Martha, Cabezas, Alacranes, Perico, Colón Oeste, Bolondrón, and Pedro Betancourt.
With this organization, the provincial health system seeks to prevent chronic complications, shorten recovery times, and improve the quality of life for patients affected by these diseases transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
