Beyond the blows…

What about that gender violence that is more underhanded and occurs within the largest and most universal institution: the family.

For some time I have been wavering about whether or not to write these lines, because I understand the sensitivity of the subject and I also know that a large part of the population will not agree with what I will say here, but I have still gathered the courage to talk about gender violence against women beyond physical aggression.

When googling examples of gender violence we find sexual abuse, mutilation, as well as physical suffering, but what about that gender violence that is more underhand and occurs within the largest and most universal institution: the family.

This is dressed with daily obligations, a 24-hour service as a laundress, maid, cook, psychologist and emerging teacher of the children and the couple, who sometimes have not finished raising, economic juggler, worker and more, so much so that there is no time left to be a lover and a woman, perhaps that is not arbitrary deprivation of liberty.

The commendable task of women in society is to give life and make life easier for others without often receiving in return the value she deserves. Moreover, when the sheep decides to leave the flock, the challenge of the sheep criticizes her, as I once heard it said: «A woman to be worthy has to dedicate herself to her home without looking the other way».

Gender-based violence within the family sphere undermines the well-being and security of the members. What is most impressive is that victims often experience trauma, low self-esteem and hardship without even realizing it. But the saddest thing is the impact on the youngest members of the household.

Boys understand that it is okay for mom to have swollen legs and still do the laundry for dad who watches soccer, cooks, does the dishes and then stays up late at night working on the computer and girls become aware that to be a worthy woman she has to almost forget about being herself.
