Every morning when he arrives at the University he greets his co-workers and students, passes by the cafeteria, has a cup of coffee to cheer himself up and with the joy of a young man walks to his work area.
A place that goes unnoticed by passers-by, but is the crystallization of the last 30 years of work of Ramón Quiza Sardiñas, Doctor in Technical Sciences and Mechanical Engineer.
He is the founder and current director of one of the most advanced research and development institutions in the country, based at the University of Matanzas Camilo Cienfuegos.
It is the Center for Advanced and Sustainable Manufacturing Studies or CEFAS. Regarding the work of the institution and his role in it the specialist offers the following statements:

«In the six years of materialized the project has had more than outstanding results in the productive areas, scientific knowledge and impact on the economic and social life of the country. This is testified by the thirteen articles in Web of Science network journals and eleven in various recognized journals; the citations made in books of international editions about their work; the seven software and products with their own patents and three recognitions from the territorial CITMA».
Among its most concrete achievements are the use of 3D printing technologies for the creation of delicate medical prostheses such as skull fractures and replacement of other bone structures; the introduction of Industry 4.0 technologies in national production and the application of methodologies for the multi-object optimization of manufacturing processes with a sustainable approach.
The center’s work does not end there. In its future projections, as part of its development objectives through technological innovation, transferable products and services, it is working on several new projects.
Together with Empresa de Gases Industriales, they are working on the introduction of a digital twin system, which will allow the modeling and prediction of industrial systems with precision.
The doctoral thesis of Ramón Quiza Sardiñas for the design and manufacture of scaffolds for the regeneration of cellular tissue, among others, demonstrates Cuba’s scientific and technical potential, despite the country’s technological and resource limitations.
