CTE Guiteras moves towards a self-sustainable and environmentally friendly model.

Workers at the Antonio Guiteras Thermal Power Plant are finalizing preparations for a 72-hour technical shutdown to repair the high-temperature superheater as soon as SEN availability permits.

The workers at the Antonio Guiteras Thermal Power Plant are finalizing preparations for a 72-hour technical shutdown to repair the high temperature superheater, as soon as the availability of the SEN allows it.

According to engineer Rubén Campos Olmo, general manager, the Guiteras is currently maintained at 235 MW and said that the maintenance is crucial to guarantee energy efficiency and is ahead in the logistics of parts and pieces for a future major intervention scheduled for the end of the year which will include the boiler, turbine, generator and output transformer.

Strategic project: Desalination plant

In view of the high water consumption of the Matanzas industry, which depends on the Bello wells, a source that also supplies the population, the thermal power plant has consolidated an innovative solution consisting of a desalination plant, which is awaiting financing.

This will allow water independence for the industry, a relief of supply for the population and the reduction of pressure on local aquifers.

Among the environmental benefits will be a technology aligned with advanced global practices that minimizes ecological impact and optimizes the use of resources.

The investment will have an economic and social impact that will not only prevent water stress, but will also enable industrial sustainability by ensuring operational continuity without affecting residential supply.

Long-term savings will reduce operating costs associated with water treatment and extraction.

«This desalination plant will give us water independence and relieve the population, in addition to placing us at the environmental forefront. We hope to secure financing soon,» said Rubén Campos Olmo, general manager of Guiteras.

The Guiteras plant is moving towards a self-sustainable model that combines strategic maintenance with investments in water-saving technologies.
