Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Eduardo Martínez Díaz visited this Friday the Las Marías farm in Unión de Reyes municipality, where producer Roberto Francisco Corso González leads a project aimed at diversifying and increasing local agricultural production.

The farm, with an area of about two caballerias, includes crops such as plantain, yucca, corn, sweet potato and okra, as well as mixed breeding of rams, pigs and rabbits. During the tour, Corso González explained that the farm works with a sugar cane mill that allows them to produce food for the animals.

«The goal is to reach 500 breeding farms, in addition to setting up new banana areas and continue expanding pig breeding,» said the producer. However, Corso shared with the Vice Prime Minister the main limitations they face, among them, the lack of allocation of more land requested to expand crops, the lack of basic tools such as machetes and materials for clearing.

The visit is part of a government program to follow up on the productive bases of the country, with the objective of identifying solutions to enhance food sovereignty from the countryside.
