From Tingüiro to the National Series.

With key players absent from the Matanzas team due to injuries and contracts abroad, young talents are looking to establish themselves within the squad.

With key players sidelined by injuries and contracts abroad, the Matanzas team is looking to solidify its place on the roster.

Amid this headache for manager Armando Ferrer, a bright spot is the strong performance of rookie Brayan Peña.

A native of the municipality of Perico, the powerfully built outfielder is a staple in the starting lineup. Wearing number 88, Peña boasts a .268 batting average with 34 hits in 127 at-bats.

The versatile outfielder noted that, being his debut season, there’s always a bit of pressure, but from the very beginning of his preparation, he focused on working hard so that the results would show on the field.

«I’m trying to make adjustments to my batting mechanics to improve my pitch selection and be able to contribute in any role the team management puts me in,» he added.

Peña combines power hitting with contact and explosiveness on the basepaths, factors that make him a five-tool player with a promising future in baseball.

With the goal of returning to top positions in the national pastime and qualifying for the Elite Baseball League, Brayan, along with the rest of the Matanzas roster, is ironing out weaknesses as the championship nears its end.
