A medical brigade from the Comandante Faustino Pérez Provincial Teaching Clinical Surgical Hospital returned to Unión de Reyes municipality to hold its traditional Health Festival, an initiative that is becoming increasingly accessible to remote communities.

Although this time the 15 specialists set up camp in the provincial capital, it was a clear sign of respect for this territory, which was chosen to host the provincial event for the 42nd anniversary of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program.
Some 80 people received care in the Paseo area, where doctors examined patients grateful for receiving care close to home, an added benefit of not having to travel to the provincial capital during times of fuel and transportation shortages.
Specialists in Internal Medicine, Urology, Surgery, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and other disciplines benefited from this Health Festival, which was held five times last year in the same area of Unión de Reyes.
The Deputy Director General of Medical Assistance, Dr. Greter Robaina Rodríguez, highlighted the importance of these festivals for the population and their positive impact in the areas where they are held, according to the newspaper Girón.
Considered a way to reaffirm the professionals’ commitment to providing attentive, humane, and equitable care, another festival is scheduled for January 7th in the municipality of Los Arabos.
One of the advantages of this approach is that it facilitates access to specialized consultations for residents of remote areas, as all these services are concentrated in one place and on the same day. These practices undoubtedly expand healthcare coverage and strengthen Family Medicine as a pillar of the Cuban healthcare system.
