José Amauri Noroña Shines in Chinese Baseball
Despite his team Xiamen Dolphins’ defeat, four runs to two against Beijing Loongs, Matanzas native José Amauri Noroña had an excellent day in the Chinese Professional Baseball (CPB).
The Colón municipality native hit a pair of hits in four official at-bats in the contest, in addition to scoring a run and receiving a strikeout; despite his performance, he could not prevent Xiamen from losing its undefeated record in the Asian tournament.
For his part, Holguín native Yasiel González, who also plays with the Dolphins in the championship, got a pair of hits in four trips to the batter’s box.
Right-hander Frank Herrera worked two complete innings with one walk and one strikeout for the winners, while his compatriot Yankiel Mauri could barely pitch for one-third of an inning, in which he was hit for three hits and two runs were scored against him.
Catcher Andy Cosme became the hero of the contest by hitting a rocket to center field that drove in two runs when the game was tied at two in the tenth inning.
The ballplayers from the largest of the Antilles continue demonstrating their worth in their first incursion into the Chinese professional championship.
