Matanzas Crocodiles resume training ahead of the Cuban baseball playoffs.
The Matanzas Crocodiles returned to training yesterday after enjoying a few days off for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
On the field at Victoria de Girón Stadium, the team, managed by Armando Ferrer, held their first training session of 2026, focused on maintaining their physical condition for the final stage of the Dominican Winter League.
Among the new additions to the Crocodiles’ roster for the playoffs is catcher Ariel Martínez, who plays in the Japanese baseball league and will be a valuable asset for the western team.
The Crocodiles are still waiting to find out who their opponent will be in the quarterfinals. The game between the Pinar del Río
Vegueros and the Holguín Cachorros, scheduled for today, Sunday, at Capitán San Luis Stadium in Holguín, will determine who will face Matanzas and whether the Vegueros will advance directly to the top league.
