Matanzas Filmmakers Win Awards at Winter Film Festival.
Matanzas maintains its active participation, and its members have demonstrated the talent and ability to create their own materials.
Four films from Matanzas province won awards at the 42nd Winter Film Festival in Santa Clara, one of the most important events in the country’s film club movement.
The province participated with works from the Fusión, Génesis, and Producciones Blea film clubs.
According to information from the head of the delegation, specialist and promoter Vladimir Pérez Padrón, the documentary «Padilla,» by filmmakers Lester Garlobo and Daniela Daniel of the Fusión group, won the Art Direction Award.
The animated film «Mi amante la Tierra» (My Lover the Earth), by director Carlos Daniel Hernández León, also garnered awards, winning both the Soundtrack Award and the Original Music Award.
Meanwhile, María Eloilda Flores Rodríguez, from the «Ramón Vega» film club in Calimete, received the Rafael González Arteaga Award, granted by the Juan Marinello House of Culture, and the Hermanos Saíz Association presented its highest award to Ibrayan Rodríguez, from the Génesis film club in Jagüey Grande, for the animated film «Puros recuerdos» (Pure Memories).
The Winter Festival, a film event organized by the Cubanacán film club, embodies the spirit of perseverance of the Cuban film club movement, which arose with the aim of promoting film appreciation through national and international cinema.
