Matanzas Genetic Livestock Enterprise: 53 years later.

Matanzas Genetic Livestock Enterprise, founded 53 years ago by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, is working today on the recovery of its productive indicators, it was explained during a meeting with workers and managers in the framework of the celebration on the occasion of the date.

In this space, it was informed that in the genetic plan, the Mambi breed, the buffalo program and, to a lesser extent, the Siboney and the Pelibuey cattle are advancing, as a consequence of the high levels of herd decrease.

Another negative indicator is milk production, as a result of insufficient water and feed, the theft and slaughter of large cattle and milk diversion, among other causes.

The meeting was chaired by Susely Morfa, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Matanzas, Marieta Poey, vice-governor of the province, as well as some authorities of the municipalities of Limonar, Pedro Betancourt and Matanzas (areas that integrate the company).

The party leader called in this space to encourage the youngest and gave as an example the agricultural collective of the 91st dairy farm of the Unidad Empresarial de Base Triunvirato, which today is led by a young man of 21 years old.

For this reason, one of the commitments for the second half of the year is to produce more than 10,000 tons of silage and thus arrive at the dry season in better conditions. It also highlights the creation of six bull fattening farms, as well as plantain, cassava and sweet potato, the development of livestock modules and the reduction of deaths.

The Empresa Pecuaria Genética, the largest of its kind in Cuba, was founded 53 years ago for the genetic improvement of the cattle mass and the increase of milk and meat production in this area.
