Matanzas won first place as a province in the National Contest of Gastronomic Services and Specialties organized by the Technical Professional Education.

In the contest, held from April 8th to 10th at the Cayo Santa María Hotel Complex in Villa Clara, two students of the polytechnic education of the capital city of Matanzas and a teacher from the municipality of Cárdenas won the main prizes.

According to the information provided by Nicasio Comas Vázquez, director of Higher Secondary Education in the province, Yandy Tamayo Poey won the first place in the hotel reception specialty, while Nayeli Labandeira Rivera, both from the Josue País Polytechnic Institute of the head town, was also crowned in the gastronomic services contest.

According to what he said, both young people were the winners of the provincial event of the Services, held last January at the Hotel Escuela Bella Vista of the Gaviota Corporation in Varadero.

“In the case of the contest of methodological classes, also achieved the first position the teacher José Luis Benítez Toledo, who works at the Frank País García Polytechnic Center in the municipality of Cárdenas.”

The expert from the General Directorate of Education (DPE) in Matanzas emphasized that the skills fairs and contests organized every year by the Technical Professional Education, from the grassroots to the national level, are opportune spaces to show the skills acquired by students during the teaching process and propitiate the formation of professional competencies with a view to their future work.

“It is very satisfactory for the province to achieve this first place, since it demonstrates the level of preparation of the students in the development of professional skills in each of the specialties and also the effort of professionals, teachers and instructors of the Hotel Escuela de Varadero and their praiseworthy performance in the formation of the qualified labor force of the tourism sector,” the DPE director noted.
