Matanzas Labor Movement Reaffirms Support for Venezuela.

The Matanzas labor movement issued a message condemning the aggression of the United States government against Venezuela and expressing its unwavering support for that sister Bolivarian nation this Monday during a special afternoon meeting at the headquarters of the Provincial Committee of the Central Organization of Cuban Workers (CTC).

A message condemning the aggression of the United States government against Venezuela and expressing its full support for that brotherly Bolivarian people was sent by the Matanzas trade union movement this Monday during a special afternoon meeting at the headquarters of the Provincial Committee of the Central Workers’ Union of Cuba (CTC).

Led by Osmar Ramírez, general secretary of the labor organization, the leaders of the CTC Secretariat and representatives of the provincial unions attended a rally where voices of condemnation were raised against the bombings in the early morning of January 3rd, and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Ramírez described what happened as a blatant violation of the sovereignty and independence of Chávez’s homeland, and called for «honoring, through daily actions, the memory of the 32 combatants who fell in defense of Nicolás Maduro, the legitimate president of Venezuela.»

Reynier Reyes Urquiza, head of the Organizational Sphere of the CTC Provincial Committee, affirmed that the labor movement and the workers of Matanzas join the outcry of Cuba, of countries in Latin America, and of the world, convinced that unity and resistance are the strongest responses to imperialist hostility.

Earlier that morning, similar acts of solidarity took place in workplaces across the 13 municipalities of this western region, where it was recalled that in the same region where the Bay of Pigs invasion was defeated, there is a resolute people who will not be intimidated.

Yanlys Yanet Durán, general secretary of the Energy and Mining Workers Union, expressed her support for Venezuela, whose resources, especially oil, are being seized by U.S. imperialism. We know of the strength of our brothers and sisters to prevent this.
