Matanzas will seek to improve land use regulation.
On March 1st, an exercise to control the possession, use and legality of land and livestock will begin in the 13 municipalities of the province to contribute to the increase of productions, said Carlos Luis Naranjo, delegate of Agriculture in Matanzas.
The process, which will contribute to promote the use of installed capacities, will also help to reduce idle areas and those that are poorly exploited, said Naranjo during a recent exchange at the «José Smith Comas» School of the Communist Party of Cuba.
According to an established schedule, commissions and subgroups were created involving personnel from the Agriculture system, the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), and other agencies involved in land management, he said.
He said that in the previous year 2023, work was carried out in Jagüey Grande and Cárdenas, pilot municipalities in which illegalities associated with constructions without the pertinent permits, inheritance procedures, expired usufruct contracts and idle lands were detected.
Lourdes Sarmiento, coordinator of programs and objectives that attends to the economy in the territory, highlighted the relevance of the process to achieve a food balance, at the municipal level, with a greater participation of national production in the Standard Family Basket.
The province of Matanzas possesses gracious natural values in terms of soil and water resources; according to data provided by Agustina Aguilar Fuentes, institutional communicator of the Ministry of Agriculture in the territory, there are about 17 thousand land owners.
