Progress in Matanzas buffalo program.

The buffalo program is being consolidated today at Matanzas Genetic Livestock Company , which should end the year with 1,200 animals, according to its director, Nivaldo Molina Tápanes.
In the Súper Vaca Base Unit Enterprise, the program is being developed with more than 700 buffaloes. This entity had historically been dedicated to cattle, however, its director specified that they have inserted, positively, in the management of buffalo.
The production of buffalo milk is part of the strategy of the province of Matanzas to diversify the lines and thus contribute dividends to the national economy.
In addition, buffaloes show a higher yield in average daily gain and it is possible to manage them without baths or wallows when they are provided with shade in the silvopastoral system.
