Presided over by the second secretary of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC), Isdalys Rodríguez, and Julio Enrique Morales Verea, secretary general of the National Union of Hotel and Tourism Workers (SNTHT), the ceremony to honor 10 men and women with 25 and 20 years of uninterrupted work in MINTUR entities took place at the Meliá Varadero hotel.
The general secretary of the SNTHT and Luis Martínez de Armas, delegate of tourism in this western province, presented the awards to the honorees, among whom stand out clerks, waitresses, stewards, gastronomic service assistants, specialists in the area of economy and energy, and receptionists, among other essential positions in the daily life of the tourism processes.

On behalf of the award winners, Karina Mercedes Rodríguez, receptionist at the Meliá Varadero, took the podium to evoke the commitment of receiving a recognition of this magnitude, which encourages us to raise the quality of service, with discipline and professionalism as the main guidelines of our work, energy efficiency and savings in all areas, she said.
The workers are aware of the impact of what we do for the country’s economy, he concluded, recognizing the country’s need to collect as much currency as possible from the export of services.
On March 4th, 1929, Elpidio Casimiro Sosa González was born in the current province of Villa Clara. In an altruistic gesture, he donated 300 pesos from the sale of his job as a gastronomic employee, money that he contributed to the revolutionary struggle against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.
