Varadero’s airport is on the upswing in the tourist season.

Since its inauguration on September 25th, 1989, in these 35 years the airport has handled around 54 million passengers, half of which are foreign visitors arriving to Varadero through the Juan Gualberto Gómez Airport.

The tourist season officially took off this November 22nd at the Juan Gualberto Gomez International Airport Base Business Unit, the period of greatest passenger movement, extended until April.

The ceremony recognized the role played in this important stage by airlines, travel agencies, carriers, the Ministry of Tourism of Cuba in Matanzas, the agencies located there and, of course, the employees of the second most important terminal on the island.

Those attending this inauguration were able to observe the result of the improvements made to welcome the winter season, including the beautification of the facilities, expansion of the VIP lounges, increase in the portfolio of non-aeronautical commercial offers, among other actions.

With an average of 77 operations per week, this winter season will maintain the flow of visitors traveling on ships of the northern airlines Sunwing, Transat, Westjet and Air Canada; on Condor, from Germany; on American Airlines and Word Atlantic, from the United States, and Norwind and Rossiya, from Russia, and Plus Ultra, from Poland, said Liuba Quintero, head of the Ground Operations Unit of the Matanzas airport, National Vanguard for its economic and union results in 2023.
