Work continues on the Varadero Smart Tourist Destination project.
This involves the creation of the Smart Tourism Destination (STD) office, which will be dedicated full-time to monitoring, tracking, and controlling the operation of tourism processes and their indicators.

Despite the current complex context, work continues to promote the Varadero Smart Tourism Destination (STD) project, with the aim of meeting the goals set for the FitCuba 2026 International Tourism Fair, scheduled for early May at the Plaza América Convention Center.
This was announced by authorities from the Matanzas Science and Technology Park (PCTM), the main implementing entity for the resort’s STD project, according to a post on the institution’s Facebook page.
“The Varadero STD project working group met to continue promoting development, even in the current complex context. The objective: to meet the goals set for the Tourism Fair and continue moving forward. Because development doesn’t wait. We continue working to digitally transform the country’s main sun and beach destination.”
Led by Luis Martínez de Armas, the Ministry of Tourism’s delegate in Matanzas, and Diego Vladimir Castilla Cabrera, president of this commercial company, the comprehensive project, encompassing 28 subprojects identified to date, was reviewed, with a focus on 18 of them. The goal is to present the project at the most important trade fair organized by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, traditionally held in May.
According to the newspaper Trabajadores, Castilla Cabrera announced the implementation of the VDTI (Vocational Smart Tourism Destination) project, following a methodology developed in collaboration with the Spanish entity Segittur, which holds permits granted by the European Union to certify this type of smart destination.

Several entities are part of the Varadero DTI project, whose main governing institution is the PCTM (Marine Tourism Promotion Center).
«This is what we believe adds value to Varadero,» he stated. «We aim to meet 20 percent of the indicators. This would give us a top ranking.»
With the integration of various entities, he specified that the 18 projects currently under development are being carried out by the Tourism Electronics Group (GET), among which one stands out as fundamental.
This involves the creation of the DTI office, which will be dedicated full-time to monitoring, tracking, and controlling the operation of tourism processes and their indicators, based on data analysis.
A commercial entity since 2020, the origins of the PCTM date back to November 11th, 2015, when the University of Matanzas (UM) and the Information Technology Company for Defense (XETID) created the Center for Research and Development of Software (CIDES) for e-government in this province.
The experience allowed students of the Computer Engineering program to contribute to the development of applications in that field within a business environment.
