Matanzas falls in U15 tournament preparation match.

The players, coaches, and the public observed a minute of silence to remember the young man from Matanzas who tragically lost his life while playing on this field.

The Ciego de Ávila U-15 soccer team convincingly defeated Matanzas 4-1 in a match that confirmed the team’s strong form and their status as contenders for the national title.

The Ciego de Ávila squad, coached by Michael Cordero Ruiz, displayed solidity across all lines, with a collective performance that made the difference from the opening minutes. High pressure, defensive organization, and clinical finishing were key to securing the victory against a Matanzas side that couldn’t maintain the pace of the game.

Ciego de Ávila enters this season with a solid foundation: eleven players from the squad that finished as runners-up in the 2024-2025 Cuban championship are returning. This continuity is reflected in the team’s cohesion and a clear playing style, based on unity and discipline on the field.

The preparations leading up to this match included a training camp at Cayo Coco, which the coaching staff considered a success. Furthermore, the team boasts five athletes from the national pre-selection squad, all vying for international competitions, a testament to the work being done in this age group.

The Ciego de Ávila team’s objective remains unchanged: to lead their qualifying group and advance to the final phase, which will once again be held in Ciego de Ávila, with the goal of reaching the top of the podium in Cuban school soccer.

Near the match, players, coaches, and spectators observed a minute of silence to remember the young man from Matanzas who tragically lost his life while playing on this field.
