Hanyelo Videt, the Jagüey Grande Cyclone in Matanzas Baseball.

«The Jagüey Cyclone,» as he is nicknamed within the national pastime, seeks to establish himself as one of the key figures to watch for greater achievements within the Saurios team.

With just five games remaining in the qualifying round of the 64th edition of the Cuban National Baseball Series, the Matanzas Crocodiles are in a strong position in the standings.

At the start of the season, manager Armando Ferrer Ruz’s team was among the favorites to win the championship, given the caliber of players on their roster.

A pleasant surprise for the seasoned Matanzas manager has been the performance of rookie Hanyelo Videt, a native of Jagüey Grande, who stood out in the recent Under-23 Championship.

Videt secured the starting right field position for the Crocodiles thanks to his excellent performance. In 134 at-bats, he has a total of 42 hits and a robust .382 batting average.

The young athlete stated that the results are a product of his preparation before the competition, in which he focused on refining aspects of his batting mechanics and pitch discrimination at home plate.

The national tournament for players under 23 years old helped him address some weaknesses and was the final step in securing a spot on Matanzas’ roster for the country’s top baseball competition.

Regarding his outstanding performance, the powerfully built outfielder noted that he relies heavily on his teammate Brayan Peña, with whom he has played since the youth ranks and who encourages him to improve every day.

«The Cyclone of Jagüey,» as he is nicknamed within the national pastime, seeks to establish himself as a key player for the team’s future endeavors.
