The diverse proposals that make up the program of the XLVIII Week of Culture, which delights the people of Betancourt during these days in the heat of the bicentennial of the town, are dedicated to dignifying historical memory, strengthening local heritage and valuing community creation.

As part of these initiatives, the Enrique Pérez Triana art gallery hosted an exhibition and sale of works by female creators, dedicated to the upcoming Teacher’s Day and the two centuries of the town’s existence, while the Manuel Navarro Luna library became the setting to review the literary history of Betancour and its main creators through the space «A Journey Through Letters».

Similarly, the town’s founding, the first week of cultural events, and the healthcare work of Dr. Julio Martínez Páez were the central themes of two educational talks given by researchers and specialists from the Gustavo González Pérez Museum to commemorate the town’s 200th anniversary. The «Night of Boleros» brought together multiple generations at the Cuba Theater to enjoy romantic music.
The program will also include the upcoming launch of the «Lucumí» newsletter, a showcase of traditional foods and drinks, and the awards ceremony for the Meñique Children’s Literary Contest at the María Villar Buceta Cultural Center. There, over the weekend, residents of Betancourt will have the opportunity to enjoy a danzón dance, an afternoon of rumba, and the opening of a new visual arts exhibition.
Likewise, a new edition of the «HomenajeARTE» event will celebrate the educational traditions of the people of Betancourt. Audiovisual materials will return, presented by the Lente Visual film club, and, as a grand finale, the popular and traditional «Noche del Vino» (Wine Night) and the Guateque Campesino (Country Party) will evoke the customs, traditions, and unique character that distinguish the Betancourt community.
