Circus Culture Encouraged by La Rueda at Sauto Theater
Children, teenagers, young people, and adults encouraged circus culture on the stage of the Sauto Theater, a National Monument, during a dynamic summer workshop held as an initiative of the La Rueda Company.
Kalec Acosta Hurtado, director of the neoclassical coliseum of this city, in conversation with the Cuban News Agency, celebrated the willingness of the team led by Yoilén Sánchez Cárdenas, which sought to share knowledge about techniques from the world of the big top.
In the theater’s main hall, students and teachers came together to learn about juggling, elasticity, balance… and also to honor the historical bond between circus arts and the Sauto Theater, on whose stage even elephants and horses have been seen, commented Acosta Hurtado.
La Rueda’s official page on the Facebook social network highlights that teachers such as Rogelio Acevedo and Yennyfer González, members of the Roy duo, contributed to the sessions, and Yhvan Ramos, better known as the clown Circorete, taught balance.
The company’s page also proudly notes that this year’s enrollment brought together students from the National Circus School, young people who had attended previous editions of the Workshop and had already passed the entrance exams to that school, and children exploring the performing arts.
With the guidance of professionals, the summer workshop held by La Rueda legitimized itself as a breeding ground for vocations, consistent with the company’s willingness to contribute to the training of those with concerns and aspirations related to circus culture.
