Matanzas Players Stand Out in Cuban Triumph at Central American Games

The three Matanzas ballplayers who are part of the squad representing the country at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 2026, saw action in our team’s 4-0 victory over Puerto Rico.

Outfielder José Amauri Noroña started as the left fielder and sixth in the offensive order. The native of the municipality of Colón was an important piece in the manufacture of Cuba’s second run, as his hit sparked the offensive fire of the team led by Germán Mesa in the fourth inning.

In the same inning, catcher Andrys Pérez became a hero, responding offensively with a cannon shot to center field that drove in his teammate on the Matanzas Crocodiles and now on the national team, José Amauri Noroña, from second base for Cuba’s second run.

For his part, the fast Yumurino closer Armando Dueñas handled the inning in which he worked in relief without many setbacks, forcing an opposing batter to hit into a double play to shore up the Cuban victory.

The three ballplayers from the national champions of the 64th Baseball Series continue to demonstrate their worth with the national team.
