The Shadow of Hiroshima

Today marks another anniversary of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, a date that humanity should engrave in fire on its collective memory. However, the current world is moving in the opposite direction of disarmament, with nuclear powers modernizing their arsenals as if in the midst of the Cold War.

The United States, the material author of that historical crime, currently leads the dangerous escalation with new tactical bombs and short-range missiles. Its rival, Russia, threatens to deploy nuclear weapons in space, while China multiplies its deterrent capacity in the Pacific.

Flashpoints are accumulating: Ukraine, Taiwan, the Korean peninsula, and now the Middle East with the pulse between Iran and Israel. Each regional conflict can become an escalation accelerator where the first nuclear shot would be the final act of our civilization.

Disarmament treaties are expiring and dialogue has broken down, while leaders bet on deterrence as the only guarantee. Hiroshima was not an end, but a warning, and today its echo screams louder than ever: without memory, horror always returns.
