Literature Highlights the 50th Matanzas Culture Week.

Next November, the First International Poetry Festival «Poetic Bridges» will be held, dedicated to the National Literature Prize winner, Miguel Barnet, and featuring more than ten foreign writers.

Literature takes center stage again this October in Matanzas, as part of the 50th Culture Week and National Culture Day, with important activities taking place from the 10th to the 20th.

The first was the Aldabón Award ceremony, dedicated to poet Maylan Alvarez, who will give way to her elder lineage, the City Foundation Award, next Thursday the 9th, with an attractive program, along with other important events to take place in the coming days.

To learn more about these activities on the city’s founding day, we interviewed Efrahim Pérez Izquierdo, director of the Provincial Center for Books and Literature.

«On the 9th, the Foundation Award ceremony of the Matanzas City Foundation will take place. This year, the award ceremony will feature poetry, novels, and essays. Guests from several provinces will participate, along with local guests.

«On the 11th, the show Concilio de las Aguas will be presented at the Hogar de Niños Sin Amparo Filial (Home for Children Without Filial Protection), and on the 13th, we will visit Carilda’s House, at Tirry 81, because the Hispanic Affirmation Front, led by Fredo Arias de la Canal, is coming with the twelve José Vasconcelos awards that have been granted. They are interested in seeing the home where our National Literature Prize winner lived.»

The Vasconcelos Prize is one of the most prestigious awards within the international Hispanist community. It was named in honor of the illustrious Mexican intellectual José Vasconcelos, a philosopher, educator, and prominent politician.

Pérez Izquierdo also noted that the América Bobia Poetry Prize will be awarded this October 15th and 16th. The final ceremony will feature the presentation of the 2024 laureate’s plaque and the conferral of this year’s prize.

He also emphasized the significance of the donation of 2,000 copies of Cuban poetry by Virgilio López Lemus to the Gener y Del Monte Library.

Efrahim Pérez Izquierdo announced that the First International Poetry Festival «Poetic Bridges» will be held next November, dedicated to the National Literature Prize winner Miguel Barnet, with the presence of more than ten foreign writers who will share their works with our creators.
