Call for applicants for the José Jacinto Milanés Poetry Contest.

The Writers’ branch of the UNEAC in Matanzas is calling for the José Jacinto Milanés 2023 Award in the poetry genre, Leymen Pérez, president of that association, told this newspaper.

The contest is being held with the co-sponsorship of the Provincial Center of Books and Literature, the Provincial Directorate of Culture, the House of Letters Digdora Alonso and Ediciones Matanzas, in honor of the most illustrious writer from Matanzas in the 19th century.

All Cuban writers residing in the country may participate, without being required to be a member of the UNEAC. A single prize will be awarded.

The works must be between 40 and 80 pages long, in Arial 12 font, double-spaced and in PDF format to the following e-mail address: presidente.mat@uneac.com.cu. The text must be submitted under a pseudonym.

The deadline for submission is September 30th. A jury made up of prestigious writers of the country is guaranteed and its decision will be unappealable.

The award ceremony will be held at the UNEAC Social House in mid-November this year, during the José Jacinto tribute day organized in Matanzas.

Programming changes at Uneac

The communicator Frank Ortega announced that the management of the provincial Uneac met with its workers to determine the steps to be taken after the beginning of the restoration works of the building, which will last until next September.

It was decided to continue with all the activities that are usually offered to the public of Matanzas. These will be carried out in the communities and other cultural spaces of the city.

Likewise, Ortega said that the artists members of Uneac should know that the headquarters will remain open during the usual schedule to attend to their interests.

It will be a complex scenario but they will continue to offer excellent work.
