Cubacabana Unveiled
The primary purpose of writing, as well as the polarization of social classes in current Cuban society, were some of the topics discussed in the most recent edition of the «El Libro Inédito» (The Unpublished Book) space.
The gathering, which provides a moment of exchange between the author and his readers, was attended by recently Celestino Prize-winning Matanzas author Humberto Fuentes.
The guest, who was honored with said recognition in the Short Story category for his book «Cubacabana,» spoke with the host of the gathering, Alfredo Zaldívar, about this acclaimed volume.
The book is composed of twelve stories that address, from fiction, situations experienced in post-pandemic Cuba and our present days.
It is dedicated to his fellow countryman and colleague in the field, Francisco López Sacha, for the legacy he left in him, as well as in the rest of the students he instructed in his narrative techniques workshop.
<Thanks to his advice, I managed to shape conflicts that I previously felt I was not sufficiently prepared to concretize>, expressed the also journalist.
Although these stories take place in local settings, there are also nods to universal and very human themes such as loneliness and love.
The author works, through its lights and shadows, on the daily life of the country where he and his loved ones live, while also exposing a moral struggle of opposites, a representation of polarity in social classes.
About what it meant for him to be appreciated by the national-level contest, he explained that the news was even more special because he is the fourth consecutive Matanzas author to receive it.
He also added that from Editorial La Luz, linked to said competition, important texts have been published that, from visuality to composition, he takes as references in his own work.
The headquarters of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba in the province of Matanzas hosts, as usual, this gathering in order to welcome the promises of Literature in the territory.
