Matanzas authorities visit sites of economic interest (+photos).

he first secretary of the Party in Matanzas, Mario Sabines Lorenzo and the governor, Marieta Poey Zamora, began their tour this Thursday of sites of agricultural interest in Unión de Reyes territory at the La Concepción farm, belonging to the Cooperative of Credits and Services Juan Ávila, recognized for its leadership in the cultivation of tobacco and other agricultural products such as cabbage, tomatoes and chili peppers.

The first secretary of the Party in Matanzas, Mario Sabines Lorenzo and the governor, Marieta Poey Zamora, began their tour this Thursday through the farm La Concepción, belonging to the Cooperative of Credits and Services Juan Ávila, recognized for its leadership in the cultivation of tobacco and other agricultural products such as cabbage, tomato and chili bell pepper, to visit sites of agricultural interest of the territory.

During his exchange with the producers, the political leader insisted on the need to promote the planting of cassava and plantain to fulfill the province’s strategy of reaching 12,000 hectares (ha) of both crops.

«We are trying to reach about twelve thousand hectares of plantain and twelve thousand of cassava in the province.

«We are also aiming for a high level of sweet potato and malanga, those four viands. This is what we are doing so that everyone sows a little bit of each thing because that will help lower prices, which is what our people need, that they do not lack food and that it costs less,» said Sabines Lorenzo.

The highest authorities of the Yumurina province also visited the La Esperanza livestock module, located in the Valladares rural settlement, where the municipality’s agro-industrial company is managing a batch of more than 300 rams.

On the Tolón farm, near the town of Alacranes, young farmer Yusney Ginoris Perdomo dedicates more than 30 hectares of land to the cultivation of black, navy and white beans, a grain that is not only essential for the basic family food basket, but also plays a fundamental role in import substitution, a key objective for the country’s sustainable development.
