Matanzas Salutes Africa Day.

All the peoples have a little bit of Africa, Matanzas knows it inherited and present, for that reason not few actions during the last week greeted the international day that puts the glance in that continent.

All peoples have a bit of Africa, Matanzas knows it inherited and present, that is why not a few actions during the last week greeted the international day that puts the look on that continent of broad history, strong and spread culture.

Every May 25th, Africa Day is celebrated and in order to greet the date, the Museum of the Slavery Route, formerly San Severino Castle, inaugurated on Thursday a special exhibition dedicated to the Cabildo Arará Espíritu Santo, in order to promote a look at the traditions that endure.

The AfroArte project and the Lorenzo Padilla Diaz Museum of Art are also defenders of the connection between Cuba and the cultures of the so-called continent without cold, a bond they honor through actions of promotion, preservation, creation and dialogue with diverse social actors.

An Afroferia was held today in the central Calle del Medio, the main commercial artery in the Historic Urban Center of the city of Matanzas, with the participation of various enterprises, community experiences and amateur artists.

The «Peña Rumbeando con los Reyes del Tambor», in the Callejón de las Tradiciones, as well as plastic interventions and performances in the neighborhood of Pueblo Nuevo, also constitute actions planned for this Saturday.

Matanzas does not overlook Africa Day on the occasion of the Decade for People of African Descent, an operational framework declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) under the slogan Recognition, Justice and Development, to encourage States to eradicate social injustices inherited from history and to fight against racism, prejudice and racial discrimination.
