The doubleheader allowed the Matanzas team to evaluate their future representatives during their training camp.
Matanzas emerged victorious in both games, first with a decisive 12-0 score and then in a close 10-9 victory. The coaching staff highlighted the team’s stability and the usefulness of the series in fine-tuning their game in preparation for the national tournament.
The Matanzas offense was led by designated hitter and first baseman Darían Dopaso, who went 4-for-6, and third baseman Yaniel Martínez, who collected three hits in six at-bats. Both players repaid the faith shown in them by their coaches.
Despite defensive lapses in the second game, Mayabeque maintained the pressure until the end and came close to tying the score. However, Matanzas walked off with a ninth-inning victory.
These games are part of the league’s preparation program, designed to evaluate young talent and determine the roster that will represent the province in the U-15 championship.
