Producing food to eat better.

«Hopefully other centers will imitate the collective of Juan Gualberto Gómez, a reference not only in this issue of food sovereignty, but also in its link with the community and other social support such as care for children from homes without family support.»

Producing food to eat better could summarize the disposition of many collectives in the province of Matanzas that embrace this initiative of a broader scope than the mere pretension of making their stomachs happy.

To gain food autonomy is the desired purpose in these bets to harvest by oneself products with increasingly higher sales value in the market and for companies the cost of high invoices for the purchase of food, grains, vegetables, meats.

The benefits are tremendously palpable in collectives already with the fruit of the harvests of the fields and farms, attended in a habitual way by workers and by the method of change of labor, method that once a week implies the contribution of the personnel of offices or linked to the creation of goods or of services to the attention of the sowings.

The business unit based at the Juan Gualberto Gómez Ferrer International Airport is among those who decided to take the guardrail, roll up their sleeves and work the land, without any complex, according to general manager José Antonio García Manso.

On the six-hectare farm, three hectares are already planted, two with banana fruit and vianda, where we intersperse pumpkin and yucca, and another with coffee, García Manso said. «Now we are linking up with the Pork Company to raise pigs, which we will finance ourselves».

He announced that in the projections is that «one day we will be able to offer departing passengers the experience of watching coffee roasting, brewing and straining it and that they will enjoy this act, which defines part of our entity».

Osmar Ramírez Ramírez, secretary general of the Provincial Committee of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, praised the position of managers and employees of the second most important airfield in the country, one of the standard-bearers in food production.

«Hopefully, other centers will imitate the Juan Gualberto Gómez’s collective, a reference not only in this strategic issue of food sovereignty, but also in its link with the community and other social support such as care for children from homes without family support.»
