Tourism potential of Matanzas highlighted in Cuban Parliament.
The tourism potential of the province of Matanzas in terms of urban and nature proposals were highlighted by Governor Mario Felipe Sabines Lorenzo during the work of the commissions, corresponding to the Second Ordinary Period of Sessions of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP) in its 10th Legislature.
While speaking at the ANPP’s Services Commission, Deputy Sabines Lorenzo assured that «in the province we are making progress in the strategic line of development related to tourism, both in the city and in the countryside, which has allowed us to establish transcendental goals and indicators for economic and social recovery».
He highlighted the historical and cultural attractions of enclaves such as the Zapata Swamp, its exclusive benefits to continue promoting nature tourism and the impact of these activities in the communities where there are options for the enjoyment of those who enjoy this type of leisure activity.
In his X account, Sabines Lorenzo said that «we have to achieve a little more incentive between tourism and our municipalities so that they feel the participation of this tourism. How can we really get tourism to go to the city and the museum, to the Bellamar Cave,» he asked.
According to the Facebook profile of the Provincial Government, the Governor presented the strategic lines of territorial development, strengths and challenges of the development programs implemented in the municipalities and their results for the well-being of the citizens, including tourism.
Sabines Lorenzo asserted that «there is awareness in the municipalities of the importance of these issues in the present and future and to guarantee a greater offer of goods and services to the people, committed from the union of all sectors».
Declared as an urban tourist destination in October 2018, the city of Matanzas transcends for being the cradle of musical genres such as Danzón, Danzonete, Mambo and Rumba, Cultural Heritage of the Nation, rhythms that today are kept alive in groups such as the Muñequitos de Matanzas and the Failde Orchestra.
In its historic center, the largest in the country, are located museums such as the Art Museum (exhibiting the largest collection of African art on the island), the French Pharmacy Botica Pharmacy, the best preserved in Latin America, and the old Fire Station. In that special area, declared a National Monument, also stands the majestic Sauto Theater.
In addition to other values, there are attractions, particularly the Bellamar Caves, the oldest active tourist center in Cuba, in addition to the restored Encanto Louvre and Velazco, which together with the San Juan River and the Canimao River make up the hotel plant of Matanzas city.
In the case of Ciénaga de Zapata, there are ideal conditions for the enjoyment of nature tourism, distinguished and protected with the management categories of Biosphere Reserve (2000), Ramsar Site of International Importance (2001) and National Park.
