A group of young people from Betancourt will participate in the Caravan of Freedom, which, in its traditional reenactment, will travel through Matanzas province on January 7th.
The initiative evokes the historic journey undertaken in early 1959 by members of the Rebel Army toward Havana, and constitutes a living tribute to the triumph of the Revolution and to the memory of those who led that glorious feat.
The delegation’s farewell ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Municipal Party Committee, where Lisbey Fuentes Campos, secretary of the Young Communists League, and leaders Louserelis Valle Mestre, Vania Hernández Herrera, and Danisleidys Fundora García, representing the party structure, emphasized their confidence in the youth as the inheritors of the discipline, enthusiasm, and patriotic commitment of the revolutionary combatants.
In this regard, Erick Ceballos Guerra, president of the Federation of Secondary School Students (FEEM) in the Matanzas province, stated that this journey represents a commitment to history, to the continuity of the ideals of social justice, and to the defense of sovereignty against any challenge.

The journey, previously begun by the current generation in front of the walls of the former Moncada Barracks—now the 26th of July School City—is being undertaken with the same fervor that inspired the revolutionaries in 1959.
This particular caravan commemorates the 67th anniversary of the victory of January 1st and, especially, the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the undisputed leader of that feat that shaped the destiny of the island.
