Yucayo Bets on Solar Energy to Navigate the Energy Siege
The Yucayo Basic Business Unit (UEB), belonging to the Matanzas Beverage and Soft Drink Company (EMBER), began the process of changing its energy matrix toward solar energy.
The bet on solar energy at the century-old rum factory constitutes an example of how Matanzas industry faces current challenges with its own and sustainable solutions.
Starting this Monday the 14th, the bidding begins to opt for the assembly and commissioning contract. The investment, valued at more than one hundred million pesos, will guarantee the vitality of the rum factory.
The project will ensure, with battery backup, the 70 kilowatts the industry consumes. Once the bidding process is concluded, the assembly will begin, which must start before the end of the year and is projected to conclude in the first quarter of 2027.
The prolonged and frequent blackouts currently affect the productive process of the century-old industry, to which is added the deficit of raw materials. Both obstacles are caused by the blockade imposed by the United States and the energy siege.
With this investment, the Yucayo UEB not only seeks to navigate the energy difficulties that hinder production but also to take a firm step toward energy sovereignty and sustainability, in a context where innovation and productive resistance become pillars of local development.
