Promoting Reading and Drawing

Jovellanos – At the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado educational institution, located in the La Isabel People’s Council of this municipality, a promotion day was held for the books «Había una vez» (Once Upon a Time) and «La Edad de Oro» (The Golden Age).

The activity featured the active participation of children, librarians, and the territory’s cultural promoter. Each student had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the stories of these classic works of Cuban children’s literature. As an expression of their comprehension and sensitivity, each child made a drawing about their preferred story among the texts read.

The young artists captured in their creations the characters and scenes that most captivated them, from the fables of «Había una vez» to the verses and Martí’s advice from «La Edad de Oro.»

In this way, they demonstrated their interpretive ability and their emotional connection to reading. The activity, which combined aesthetic enjoyment with learning, was accompanied by the librarians, who guided the selection of texts. The cultural promoter, for her part, stimulated the children’s imagination during the creative process.

This meeting, held in the heart of the rural community of La Isabel, not only encouraged the reading habit among the youngest but also fostered a space for collective creation where art and literature joined hands.

The choice of «La Edad de Oro,» in particular, takes on special meaning when remembering José Martí’s legacy. The Apostle dreamed of a childhood educated in values and beauty, and his texts remain relevant to awaken consciences. Today, those ideals spread to every corner of the Jovellanos municipality through these initiatives.

In this way, the educational institution and the municipality’s Culture system reaffirm their commitment to the comprehensive education of new generations. They bring books and artistic stimulation to every People’s Council of the territory, leaving no one behind.
