José Amauri Noroña Faces a New Professional Opportunity

Matanzas ballplayer José Amauri Noroña will experience a new professional venture in Chinese baseball starting next August 10.

The talented Yumurino player is part of a group of seven Cuban athletes who will participate in the upcoming edition of the Asian tournament, thanks to the signing of an agreement between the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB), the governing body of baseball in Cuba, and executives of the Chinese summer league.

The group of Cuban players experiencing this venture for the first time is made up of veteran Granma slugger Alfredo Despaigne, who has experience in the Mexican and Japanese leagues, and talented Holguín outfielder Yasiel González.

As part of the agreement, Havana pitchers Frank Herrera, Fher Cejas, Andy Vargas, and Sancti Spíritus pitcher Yankiel Mauri were also selected for this experience.

The Chinese tournament has a regular schedule of 45 games, from which the top four teams from the preliminary stage qualify for the playoffs, and then the winner of the tournament is decided in a championship series, best of three.

The Colón-born outfielder is part of the national team representing us in the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games and will experience this new opportunity in his sports career after having participated last year in the Spanish league.

«El Noro,» as he is affectionately called by those closest to him, will seek to demonstrate the talent that took him to the Cuban national team and to consolidate himself as one of the current references in the sport of bat and ball in the country.
