Transitory Exhibition «Riding with Fidel» to Be Inaugurated

The Provincial Historical Archive of Matanzas will pay tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, with the inauguration of the transitory exhibition «Cabalgando con Fidel» (Riding with Fidel), scheduled for next Tuesday, August 11, at 10:00 a.m., at the institution’s headquarters.

The activity, conceived as a prelude to the 100th anniversary of the Commander-in-Chief’s birth, will bring together the efforts of the Provincial Historical Archive, the Castillo de San Severino, and the Afro Cuba Musical Group — three institutions converging in a proposal dedicated to highlighting Fidel’s historical, cultural, and revolutionary legacy.

As part of the exhibition, the Castillo de San Severino will temporarily provide several pieces of African origin that were gifted to Fidel Castro during his lifetime. These objects, of notable heritage value, will enrich an exhibition that proposes an approach to the revolutionary leader’s figure from a historical and cultural perspective.

The day will also feature the participation of the Afro Cuba Musical Group, recognized for preserving rumba and African roots within Cuban culture. The presence of the group also symbolizes the close bond between the artistic movement and the revolutionary process, of which numerous art instructors and members of the collective have been a part.

With this initiative, the Provincial Historical Archive of Matanzas invites the population to join a space for meeting with memory, history, and national identity, through this proposal that precedes the commemorations for the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth.
