Literary Practice from Childhood
The Social House of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba in Matanzas promoted one of the most outstanding initiatives of the recently concluded Book Fair with the holding of reading and writing workshops for children.
During the three days that this literary festival took place in the Yumurino city, the institution deployed a series of activities in which such proposals for the little ones at home stood out.
In the morning hours, the Dora Alonso reading classroom took place together with the Peña del Maíz Regado (Watered Corn Gathering), as well as the open writers’ workshop taught by the house’s president, José Manuel Espino, in which the children enjoyed hours of learning.
Both spaces, recurring in the center’s programming, featured the participation of other important figures of local culture such as Yenisbel Martell, Olga Margarita Muñoz, and Mario Guerrero.
Throughout the courses offered, in the first workshop, readings of poems and storytelling took place, accompanied by songs characteristic of childhood.
The classes were enriched by the instructions of the guest of honor: Yoleydis Hernández, María Héctor, Cecilia Soto, Isolina Bellas Galbán, Freddy Casanova, and Tania Jimena.
On the other hand, the invitation covered by the well-known literary critic and cultural promoter not only shared the work of several authors from this city but also awarded their recent works with contests of ovillejos, flash fiction, and décimas.
Both gatherings with music, poetry, and oral storytelling promote good use of leisure time and professional formation from an early age through the promotion of literature.
