Ulises Rodríguez Febles, Special Mention at Ibero-American Playwriting Contest
On the eve of the 58th birthday of theater artist Ulises Rodríguez Febles, the award ceremony of the 6th Carlos Schwaderer 2026 Ibero-American Playwriting Contest was held in Spain, in which the Matanzas native achieved a Special Mention for his play Cajero (Cashier).
«Like a gift,» the playwright called it, specifying that the ceremony for this important prize took place in Castuera, Badajoz, during the Culture Fair in that beautiful tourist city.
Cajero is a comedy that addresses the reality of «banking.» The plot delves into the absurdity of everyday situations, creating a universe where the characters try to survive their circumstances.
Its premiere is planned for next September at the Sauto Theater, a National Monument, the playwright, writer, and director of the Casa de la Memoria Escénica (House of Scenic Memory) informed the press.
Rodríguez Febles, who was born in Cárdenas on September 30, 1968, has written, published, and premiered in total more than 30 theatrical works, in addition to novels, chronicles, journalistic articles, and short stories widely accepted by audiences in Cuba and other countries.
Notable works include Concierto, Virgilio Piñera Prize and Royal Court Theatre Prize winner; Huevos; and Yo soy el Rey del Mambo, performed in Cuba, Mexico, the United States, and the United Kingdom, plus the popular Emilia habla con los que no la escuchan, La ventana tejida, and Cuarentena, among others of recognized quality and contemporary vision.
Critics consider that this award places Ulises Rodríguez Febles at the center of the Ibero-American scene, as the Carlos Schwaderer Playwriting Contest constitutes a cultural reference in Spain and Latin America.
