AfroAthens community project actions increase in the summer.
Members of the Community Experience Por Amor a mi Raíz, the Network of Adolescents for Life of the Office of the Conservator in the city of Matanzas and young people from the neighborhood of Pueblo Nuevo, held an exchange from the AfroAtenas space with representatives of UNICEF in Cuba, members of the MÍDETE Campaign and the Respectful Parenting project, who advocate for a society free of violence and discrimination.
Members of the community participated in a discussion with the intervention of Claudia Isabel Pérez Toledo, professor at the School of Psychology of the University of Havana and member of the Coordination team of the Escaramujo Project, and Ingrid Lobaina, actress of the television series Calendario.
At the same time, Lisy Alina and Jorge Méndez, from the UNICEF Cuba Protection Office, led a reflection entitled Projects and programs for the attention to violence from UNICEF and community work, with families from the community and members of the Cuban Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities.
The meeting demonstrated the need for orientation spaces for families on these issues and showed the willingness to generate solutions to the situations that arise in the family, school and society in general.
Likewise, the usual space Rumbeando con Afrocuba, from Matanzas, was held, aimed at safeguarding the cultural heritage and socializing and promoting the identity, customs and traditions of the neighborhood.
The auditoriums were accompanied by Osbel Marrero, provincial director of Culture; Noslén González, deputy provincial technical director and representatives of the Casas de Cultura system.
A work of change and transformation needed in every corner of the neighborhood, whose intention extends to other municipalities of the province.
