Matanzas celebrates Fidel’s birthday with sports activities.
This Saturday, August 12th and Sunday, August 13th commemorate International Youth Day and the 97th anniversary of the birth of our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, respectively, and as part of these dates the Provincial Sports Directorate and its Recreation Department have planned several activities.
Friendly games of the little baseball leagues, 3×3 soccer matches, as well as volleyball matches and other sports will characterize the International Youth Day.
Regarding August 13, Radio 26 talked to Lázaro Puñales Leal, head of the «Physical Recreation and Use of Free Time» project of the Provincial Sports Directorate in Matanzas, who stated that «the main event for that day will be the swimming crossing of the Matanzas Bay, which is in its 53rd version».
Puñales Leal explained that there will be dozens of participants and prizes will be awarded in all age groups, including senior competitors.
He also stated that from 6:00 a.m. the check-in and registration process will begin for all participants, and the start will be at the beach of the industrial zone and the finish line at El Tenis beach, on the other side of Matanzas Bay.
