Matanzas welcomes the 3rd Mesoamerican and Caribbean Congress.

Matanzas will host from July 28th to the 4th the Third Mesoamerican and Caribbean Congress, with the participation of delegates from twelve countries, who will present their experiences on the community cultures of the region.

At a press conference, Maria Eugenia Romero, Cuba’s spokesperson for the movement, informed that the delegation will exchange with selected circles on topics such as art as a means of transforming society, race, religion, identity and traditions.

National histories, patrimonial links related to childhood, adolescence and communication will be addressed, in addition to the development of popular education and community artistic creation; with the inclusion of gender issues, diversity, women’s empowerment, virtual work and media.

Accompanied in the exchange with the media by the director of the Casa de la Memoria Escénica, Ulises Rodríguez Febles, who is in charge of the project Corazón Guamacaro Kilómetro 9, activist Romero, director of the community project Maravillas de la Infancia, explained about the upcoming Mesoamerican and Caribbean Congress.

Delving into ethical concepts, she pointed out that «Cuba is a bridge of living cultures, covering each of the nation’s territories, east, center and west, represented with ten of these work experiences in urban and rural communities, in which the various facets that each circle will bring to the table of opinions are integrated.

«There will be artistic and literary presentations, in which music, audiovisual and theatrical predominate; and the projects Maravillas de la Infancia, Afroatenas, Galería Corazones, Castillo San Severino, La Marina, circunscripción 78 del Consejo Popular Peñas Altas and that of Guamacaro, in Limonar will be visited.»

She announced that «emblematic institutions such as the Pharmaceutical Museum, the Curator’s Office and the Casa de la Memoria Escénica itself will be the sites of the «circles of words»; and cultural activities will be held at the Sauto Theater, National Monument, the Jose White Concert Hall and the Canimao Hotel, main venue of the delegations, along with the open debate on future strategies».

From July 28th to July 4th, Cuba’s Athens will host the Third Mesoamerican and Caribbean Congress of Community Cultures.
