Pedro Betancourt Strengthens Comprehensive Care for Seniors During the Summer.

With initiatives like this—focused on emotional well-being and comprehensive health—the municipality of Pedro Betancourt reaffirms its commitment to active, supportive, and dignified old age, also during the summer months.

With the conviction that prioritizing care for the elderly is an ethical duty and an inescapable social responsibility, the Municipal Health Department of this territory is deploying a set of comprehensive actions to guarantee the physical, emotional, and social well-being of this age group during the current summer season.

According to Mirta Pumariega Sotomayor, a communications representative for the aforementioned Betancourt organization, these actions respond to a strategy that combines training, medical assistance, community support, and cultural offerings, with the goal of ensuring that older adults receive dignified, sensitive, and continuous care, even during the most demanding months of the year.

Among the most relevant initiatives, Pumariega Sotomayor highlighted the continuation of the Caregiver Course, which, in conjunction with committed specialists and professionals, provides essential tools for responsible care of older adults. Its program covers topics such as the proper use of medications, the physical and emotional care of caregivers, the duties and rights associated with this work, as well as legal and ethical aspects related to the protection of the elderly.

She also highlighted the specialized medical care provided at the Dr. Pedro Figueroa Sandelis nursing home. In addition to traditional community Geriatric and Dermatology consultations, the center is also undergoing a strategic cleaning and beautification program, organized by the Health Department’s work areas to improve the comfort and quality of the environment for residents.

Similarly, in the Cuba Libre neighborhood undergoing transformation, located in the town’s 20th district, health workshops are being held, including home visits, blood pressure checks, and preventive talks. According to the communicator, this program brings medical services to those who need them most and strengthens prevention at the family and community levels.

Likewise, referring to the exhibition by the young artist Lázaro Cristhian Hernández and the dissemination of works by the painter Luis Enrique Camejo Vento and the renowned cartoonist Eduardo Abela Villareal, Pumariega Sotomayor added that specialists from the Enrique Pérez Triana gallery and the María Villar Buceta Cultural Center have led exhibitions, musical performances, lyrical recitations, and educational exchanges at the Nursing Home and the community dining hall of the Family Care System.

Finally, Néstor Ulloa Cultural Center in the Bolondrón district offers training opportunities such as the workshop «Strategies for Good Sleep in Older Age,» taught at the local Grandparents’ Home by psychologist and family therapist Riquel Arnaldo Díaz Tejeda.

With initiatives like this—focused on emotional well-being and comprehensive health—the municipality reaffirms its commitment to an active, supportive, and dignified old age, also during the summer months.
