Sailing competitions of the National School Games to be held in Matanzas.

The Camilo Cienfuegos Nautical Base, in the city of Matanzas, will be the venue for the sailing competitions of the National School Games from July 5th to 10th.

According to Alex Ferreira Navarro, board coach, 14 athletes will make up the Matanzas team, among them the runner-up in the previous games Leandro Antonino Cabrera Cálderon and Delennys González Daubar, who is in sixth grade but will compete in the 14-15 category due to her excellent results.

«The preparation was affected by problems with fuel. We could not meet all the provinces, but we really expect very good results because in April we had a cup in Varadero and the podium was Matanzas. The national team was there, as well as the provinces of Cienfuegos and Ciego de Avila,» Cabrera Calderon added.

Sailing has different modalities. There is the «optime», which is sailed by children under 15 years old; the «tabla», for those over 16 years old, which is the one practiced in Matanzas; the «laserx», for tall people; and the «hobby», which is a mixed boat, a man and a woman, in which both have to reach 110 kilograms to be able to sail.
