Tribute paid to fallen at Supertanquero Base.
Relatives, friends, authorities and the people of Matanzas paid tribute to those who fell in the line of duty one year ago during the fire of great proportions at the Supertanqueros Base, in a tribute ceremony that took place this Saturday, August 5th.
The meeting, which took place at the foundational Plaza de la Vigía, was attended by Major firefighter Yurisbel Estrada Carrasco, representing the young people of Matanzas.
The poet Orismay Hernández and the declaimer, Dr. Rachel de la Caridad de Armas, also remembered in their verses the brave men who lost their lives in the fateful days of the disaster.
After the ceremony in front of the Enrique Estrada Fire Station, they went to the San Carlos Cemetery where the military ceremony took place. There they laid flowers in front of the Pantheon of the Fallen in Defense of the Homeland where the 17 heroes rest.
Present during the day of homage to the fallen were the Chief of the Central Army, Major General Andrés Laureano González; Susely Morfa González, first secretary of the Party in Matanzas; Mario Sabines Lorenzo, governor of the province; members of the national and provincial MININT leadership and the Chief of Staff of the Military Region, Colonel Jorge Félix Meneses González, among other members of the political and governmental leadership of the territory.
