Military Hospital Workers Recognized

As recognition for their optimal performance in fulfilling their duties, workers of the Dr. Mario Muñoz Monroy Clinical-Surgical Teaching Military Hospital were honored with the commemorative seal of the 65th Anniversary of the founding of the Central Army of Cuba (ECC).

The presentation took place in the context of an exchange at the ECC headquarters in Matanzas, between professionals from the emergency and critical care service area and chiefs, officers, and civilian workers — one of the various activities in tribute to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, on the centenary of his birth (August 13, 1926).

The emotion on the faces of the laureates is perfectly visible in the images disseminated by the Central Army of Cuba’s Facebook profile — an honor added to the many received by the personnel of this revered health institution in the country, which counts among its ranks the center’s director, Labor Hero Juan Carlos Martín Tirado.

The 65th Anniversary seal was instituted on the occasion of the six and a half decades since the founding on April 4, 1961, of the Central Army — the first of the three the country now has — born in response to the need of the nascent Cuban Revolution to defend itself against aggressions from the United States administration.

Fidel entrusted the mission of founding that armed corps to a man of his complete confidence, Commander Juan Almeida Bosque, with the responsibility of protecting the broad geographic area that comprised the central region of the Greater Antilles.

Although in its early days the ECC only covered the territory of Camagüey, Las Villas, and the eastern portion of Matanzas, later, as part of the national defense organization process, it was extended to the provinces of Matanzas, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spíritus, and Ciego de Ávila.

From being the first to engage in combat against the imperialist invasion on the sands of Playa Girón, through 1962 and its role in the defense of national sovereignty during the October Crisis, this armed corps has written many pages of glory.
