Artistic Gala Announced in Matanzas for UNEAC Anniversary
The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba in Matanzas commemorates its 65th anniversary next Saturday, August 22, with a day that marks important events these days, among which the artistic gala «Monte soy» (I Am Mountain) stands out.
To learn details of what has happened and what will occur, immersed also in the 34th International Book Fair, we interviewed the president of the Provincial Committee of said organization, the award-winning writer José Manuel Espino.
«We began the day for UNEAC’s 65th anniversary with a wonderful exhibition by visual artist Frank Alexis Ortega about the history of this social house and its creators. It was a special moment that set the stage for what we have done in this period.
«We held the Cantata in homage to Fidel’s Centenary, and now we are organizing an artistic gala to celebrate this important anniversary on the 22nd itself.
«We titled it ‘Monte soy,’ and I will advance that it is inspired by our Apostle. I believe that no Cuban like José Martí can translate the artistic soul of this country, whose fervent continuator was our Commander-in-Chief, so he is present in the conception of the gala.»
This show will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the José White Concert Hall, and afterward, they will present the four texts awarded the 2025 UNEAC Literature Prizes by the winning Matanzas authors: Laura Ruiz, Leymen Pérez, Mireya Cabrera, and Danneris Fernández, in the genres of theater, poetry, essay, and novel, respectively, within the actions of the International Book Fair.
Afterward, the Matanzas UNEAC Presidency calls creators to its social house to develop the «Café Mezclao» (Mixed Coffee) space, which will feature as musical guests exponents of our Cuban spirit, Conchita Torres and her group, writers celebrating their birthdays, and nationally renowned literati.
The day for UNEAC’s 65th anniversary will extend until the end of the year, as they intend to carry out distinctive actions on the occasion of the anniversary, during the celebrations for the city’s founding and Cuban Culture Day, in addition to the anniversary of the creation of the Social House, in joint work between the province’s cultural institutions and the artistic talent of the territories.
