Cloud of Colors in Matanzas

In Matanzas, an iridescent cloud tinted the sky with green, pink, purple, and golden flashes, visible from the Sidra-Triunvirato highway to San Miguel de los Baños and Limonar. The unusual spectacle transformed the sunset and halted drivers and farmers in their tracks.

Science explains that this prodigy is born when tiny water droplets or ice crystals of almost identical size align in the cloud. Solar rays are deflected and separated into different wavelengths, like a prism, and interference amplifies some colors while dimming others, gifting pastel bands.

The sighting spread rapidly: travelers raised the alarm, Limonar’s elderly recalled visions from their youth, and young people used their phones to immortalize the moment. The whimsical cloud moved slowly, keeping the entire province in anticipation.

Without need for telescopes, it was enough to look up to appreciate this ephemeral gift of nature. As it faded with the night, each witness held in their retina that palette of dreams. Matanzas shared under a single sky a beauty that proves the everyday still holds wonders.
